Intro Courses

Cable vs Boat // Introductory Courses
One question we get asked a lot by people new to waterskiing or wakeboarding is which is best, boat or cable?
We’ve compiled a list of the pros and cons of each to help you decide which is the most suitable for you.

Cable // Pros
Cost – You get a lot more time on the cable for your money.

Social – With so many people there, a lot of great friendships have been formed.

Kickers and Sliders – These bring a new dimension to wakeboarding.

Availability – Once you have completed an intro course, you can turn up any time, no need to book.

Cable // Cons

Walking – If you fall off, there’s no boat to come and get you (except on ladies and kids mornings).

Instruction – While all our coaches are expert wakeboarders, their time is split between many people on the cable and so the instruction is not quite as intensive as it is on the boat

Skiing – While the cable is capable of towing people at 36mph, we only run it at 20mph which makes it too slow for serious mono skiing.

Age Limit – Unfortunately, children under ten cannot use the cableski.

Boat // Pros
One-On-One instruction – If you’re nervous about learning, it is much easier to learn on the boat, as the coach is with you every step of the way.

Driver – When learning, the boat driver can vary the speed of the boat to help you stay on top of the water.

No Age Limit – We’ve taught children as young as three to waterski behind the boat.

No Pressure – On the boat, it’s you, the coach and nobody else watching.

Boat // Cons
Time On The Water – If you only use the boat, you will never get as many miles under your board as a cable rider, meaning in general, your board skills will take longer to develop.

Progression – Although it is useful to have the undivided attention of a coach, you will still progress more quickly by riding with people of a similar level to help push you on.

Booking – You need to be organised! In the summer, the boat can be fully booked weeks in advance. You must book a long way ahead.
